Management at the Walmer Country Club has expressed its shock at todayâs acquittal of three accused in the Gerrie Hoekstra murder trial.
A lack of credible witnesses has been cited as a main reason why they have walke free.
Hoekstra, who was the club manager, was murdered in 2010 while on his way to a nearby bank to deposit club monies.
Sherwin Leander (29), Karen van der Merwe (41) and Charné Brown (32) were today acquitted in the Port Elizabeth High Court, and left the court building as free woman and a free man.
Another accused, Abduragmaan Hendricks, is serving a 15 year sentence after pleading guilty earlier.
A lawyer close to the case says Judge Phakamisa Tshiki has ruled that neither the State nor the defence's witnesses were credible and the accused were acquitted on grounds of reasonable doubt.
