Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University will remain closed.
NMMU says in a statement this means that all activities, bar essential services, will not resume for the rest of the day.
It says during this time, Management will continue to engage with students to find a lasting solution towards ensuring that the academic programme continues, even while these students heed a call for free education for the poor.
Academic activities were suspended on Tuesday following attempts by some students to block entrances to the campus as part of the campaign driven by student body Sasco.
The SRC at NMMU also held a mass meeting with students to get their input on the fees issue which will be presented to a task team established by President Jacob Zuma.
Meanwhile a WhatsApp message has been doing the rounds where an alleged student is threatening to kill any person who tries to access certain parts of campus. The audio clip was recorded on Tuesday.
The clip has since gone viral and prompted NMMU to issue a statement.
Spokesperson for NMMU Zandile Mbalela says the university is investigating the source and veracity of the message. An appropriate sanction will be meted out on conclusion of the investigation. She says the message goes against the very core of the values the institution stands for and does not represent the views of the university.
