The South African Police Service said that its 10111 Centre and the Cluster Operational Command Centre in Port Elizabeth are temporarily closed.
This is due to a member having tested positive for the Covid-19 virus.
National police spokesperson, Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo, said the 10111 emergency service will still be operating from the same building but in a confined space identified as an alternative until the main Centre is decontaminated.
“The COCC will be operating from the Public Order Policing premises in Struandale,” he said.
Naidoo said that the communities of Nelson Mandela Bay should be aware that the 10111 lines are limited and they should contact their nearest police station for non-emergency matters.
“Due to the limited availability of lines, the lines need to be utilised for emergency situations,” he said.
The 10111 facility and the Command Centre will be decontaminated and the community will be informed of its re-opening.
This is the third SAPS facility to be affected this week after the Kabega Park and Mount Road Police Stations Community Services Centres were closed after members tested positive for the virus.
