Third mandrax bust in two weeks outside Plett

A 33-year-old man appeared in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate's Court late on Monday, February 2 after police found Mandrax worth more than R20 000 in his vehicle.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Marlene Pieterse said members of the Tsitsikamma dog unit received information that a person driving a Quantum minibus was transporting drugs.
They spotted a vehicle fitting the description on the Wittedrift turn-off on the N2 on Sunday at about 5pm.

After pulling the vehicle over and carrying out a search, police found 475 Mandrax tablets behind the front seat of the minibus.

"The drugs have an estimated value of about R23 000," Pieterse said.

She added that a 33-year-old suspect was arrested for being in possession of drugs and he appeared in the local magistrate's court the next day.

The case was postponed to February 11 for confirmation of the suspect's address.

This became the third Mandrax bust in the Bitou area in less than two weeks
