A 23-year-old man is expected to appear in the Port Alfred Magistrates Court on Monday after he broke into two homes over the weekend.
Spokesperson Captain Khaya Tonjeni says the alleged thief stole two Fossil wrist watches, some personal belongings and a cellphone.
The suspect, however, left a trail which led police straight to his house where they found him sleeping in his bed.
Tonjeni says they dialled the number of the stolen phone which then started ringing from underneath the suspect's mattress.
He was immediately arrested and the stolen goods confiscated.
The man will be charged with housebreaking and theft.
