The trial of former attorney Louis Erasmus on charges of theft has been set down for the first week in October in the PE Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.
Erasmus is facing 56 counts, which include theft and the contravention of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act.
He’s accused of siphoning off a total of R1.2 million from his various clients, in that he allegedly misappropriated money from his law firm’s trust account.
A substantial portion of the payments made by the Road Accident Fund for clients who had been seriously injured in car accidents was kept in these trust accounts.
The accused handed in a medical certificate which indicates that he has comorbidities which put him at high risk for Covid-19, therefore the trial was postponed to October.
