"Texting" while driving leads to crash that kills four people

At least four people have been killed in a taxi accident on the R-61 between Cradock and Graaff-Reinet in the Eastern Cape.

Provincial traffic spokesperson, Charles Bramwell, said a minibus taxi driver was apparently busy on his cellphone whilst driving and lost control of the vehicle on Monday morning.

He said the vehicle overturned killing four people instantly, and injuring eleven others, including the driver.

The four fatalities were a man, two women and a two-year-old child.

Bramwell said passengers reported to authorities that the driver had been busy sending text messages on his phone when he lost control of the vehicle.

He said the R-61 is one of the province's biggest problem roads at the moment recording most of the fatalities so far this festive season.
