Ten killed on notorious R61-death toll expected to rise

Ten people have been killed and about 40 injured following a bus accident on the notorious R61.

Police Spokesperson Captain Namhla Mdleleni says the 60 seater bus was travelling from Gauteng to Mthatha when it overturned between Elliot and Ngcobo on Wednesday.

Three medical rescue helicopters attended to the scene to transport the injured passengers to several hospitals in the area.

Some people were trapped in the wreckage and the death toll is expected to rise.

It is not at this stage clear what lead to the accident and it will be investigated by police.
