The Democratic Alliance in the Eastern Cape says some 600 temporary teachers who have not been paid since January, will receive their money on the 15th of May.
DA MPL, Edmund van Vuuren, said this followed interaction between the DA and the acting Superintendent -General of the Department of Education, Mthunywa Ngonzo, during a legislature portfolio committee meeting.
He says in follow-up meetings on Wednesday, Ngonzo said he would remove the obstacles which had prevented teachers from being paid.
Meanwhile, Van Vuuren condemned protests at some Eastern Cape schools.
This week, learners at three schools in Lusikisiki, Port Elizabeth and Patensie held protests against the shortage of teachers at their schools.
