Justice has prevailed for a 74-year-old woman who was raped and strangled in her Riversdale home in January this year.
The Mossel Bay Regional Court sentenced the 19-year-old Pieter Swart to 33 years in prison on Tuesday.
Swart pleaded guilty to charges of theft, rape and assault.
On the 22nd of January 2022, Swart attacked and raped his victim before he took his time searching for valuables in her house.
The grandmother sustained multiple injuries.
He was arrested the following day in Riversdale and has been in custody ever since.
Swart will only be eligible for parole after serving 20 years when he will be 39 years old.
