A convicted Bank robber who is currently serving a 15-year prison sentence in the Western Cape has been arrested for a robbery in Gqeberha.
Spokesperson for the Hawks Yolisa Mgolodela says 33-year-old Sinako Magi was arrested on Tuesday and appeared before the New Law Courts in Gqeberha.
She says on the 22nd of November 2021, Magi and an accomplice allegedly entered the ABSA branch at Govan Mbeki Street in Central, pretending to be clients.
Captain Mgolodela says it is alleged that one of them approached the teller and handed her a note, instructing her to hand over the cash in her drawer to avoid injury or death.
She says the female teller complied and handed over an amount of just over R27 000 that was in her drawer.
Magi's case in Gqeberha was postponed to the 7th of November for legal representation.
His co-accused is still at large.
In May of 2022, Magi appeared in the Bellville Magistrates Court in Cape Town after he was linked to at least eight bank robberies across the city.
Magi used a similar modus operandi by just walking into the Bank demanding cash.
He was charged with armed robbery at Standard Bank and Absa Banks in Bellville, Gugulethu, Elsiesriver, Keinvlei and Kuilsriver.
