A 19-year-old man has drowned in the surf at Jeffrey's Bay.
NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon says the incident happened at the Kabeljous river mouth on Thursday.
He says during a search, NSRI rescue swimmers spotted him and recovered the unresponsive teenager.
He was declared dead at the scene by paramedics and a doctor.
Police have opened an inquest docket.
Lambinon says three teenagers reportedly waded in shallow surf during an incoming tide when they were caught in rip currents and swept out to sea.
He says one managed to reach the shore and was not injured while the other was transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition.
