A special task team investigating the recent murder of an NMMU student and the rape of a female student has made a breakthrough in the case.The incident happened in Nelson Mandela Bay more than a week ago.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu one person was arrested by the task team and will appear in court soon.The NMMU students were hijacked and kidnapped from outside the Varsity Park student residence in North End on the 14th of this month.
The gang later raped the woman and also shot and killed 28-year-old Thabani Ngwekezi of Mthatha. His body was recovered from the ocean later.The VW Polo was found abandoned in Kwazakhele 48 hours later.
Naidu spoke to Algoa FM News about the arrest a short while ago."An 18-year-old teenager will appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrates Court tomorrow on a charge of rape, murder and hijacking. The Suspect was arrested yesterday in the Kwazakhele area.
He has been positively identified and was found in possession of the complainants belongings. He was arrested by the Task and Traffic team set up to investigate the case".
Police are still looking for four more suspects and have added more members to the task team. .
