Teenage girl caught in crossfire of gang shooting on PE's Beachfront

A 16-year-old Port Elizabeth girl was shot in the head after being caught in the crossfire of an alleged gang shooting at the beachfront in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says a group of men were parked in front of McDonald's in Beach Road, Humewood and were standing outside their car drinking when unknown men walked by confronting them.

Naidu says the two men then left but returned with ten of their friends when an argument between the two groups broke out which ended up in a physical brawl.

She says at this point someone started firing shots injuring three people. Two men were shot, including the teenage girl who was caught in the crossfire.

Naidu says another person was assaulted with a beer bottle.

She says the gang affiliation of both groups are unknown at this stage and the Provincial Gang Investigation Unit is investigating three cases of attempted murder.
