A 17-year-old youth has been sentenced to an effective 13 years in jail in the Regional Court in Nelson Mandela Bay following his conviction on two counts of rape.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Anelisa Ngcakani, said the youth was sentenced on Thursday to 10 years on each count of rape, committed in September 2019, and June 2020 in Booysens Park.
She said however that he would serve an effective 13 years after the Magistrate suspended a portion of the sentence.
Ngcakani said the accused was 16-years-old when he raped a nine-year-old boy in 2019 and was later released on parental custody.
However, she said he then raped a nine-year-old girl in June 2020 and had remained in custody following his arrest.
Ngcakani said the teen pleaded not guilty to raping the boy but admitted to raping the little girl.
