The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has signed a historic agreement with the Laphumalanga Transport Cooperative with relation to the Integrated Public Transport System.
In terms of the agreement, 60 taxi operators will be paid R6 500 rand each as a monthly compensation fee for their partnership with and participation in the 12-month pilot phase of the IPTS.
The Municipality says the IPTS aims to fulfill government's commitment to provide a public transport system that is safe, affordable and reliable.
Metro spokesperson, Roland Williams, says in order to achieve this goal, a partnership was established among the Municipality, the Algoa Bus Company and taxi associations, represented by Laphumalanga.
