Taxi operators released on warning in Bizana court

Twenty four taxi operators have been released on warning after appearing in court in Bizana on Wednesday afternoon.

This follows a protest on Monday night that turned violent and shops were also vandalised.

A policeman was shot in the arm during the fracas when the taxi operators blockaded roads demanding that they be tarred.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Khaya Tonjeni, says the policeman was treated in hospital before being discharged.

Tonjeni says the taxi operators are facing charges of public violence and malicious damage to property.

The case was postponed until the 20th of March.
