Taxi driver gunned down in Gqeberha

Police in Gqeberha are searching for two armed suspects who gunned down a taxi driver in the city on Monday.

Spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge says the incident happened just before 5 pm at a taxi rank next to Brister House in Govan Mbeki Avenue in Central.

He says it is alleged that the 44-year-old taxi driver was sitting in his vehicle when two unknown masked men approached him.

One fired several shots into his upper body before fleeing on foot.

A case of murder is under investigation.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.
