Eastern Cape police are investigating what they believe to be a drive-by shooting on the R72 near Chalumna.
Spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana says a taxi driver was gunned down in his vehicle shortly before noon on Thursday.
He says the 60-year-old sustained several gunshot wounds to his upper body and was declared dead on the scene.
Two unknown female passengers also sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Brigadier Kinana says the details are very sketchy at the moment but it is believed that a Toyota Corolla with three occupants was involved in the shooting incident.
Police are appealing to anyone who can assist with information to contact the nearest police station.
