Police in Gqeberha are searching for a taxi driver who fled an accident scene on Friday after his vehicle overturned leaving one passenger dead.
Spokesperson Colonel Naidu says it is alleged that the taxi was travelling on the R336 15 kilometres' from Kirkwood when it overturned.
Naidu says a 31-year-old passenger died on impact while 13 others sustained injuries.
The 12 scholars and one female passenger were taken to hospitals in Kariega and Gqeberha.
Colonel Naidu says the extent of the injuries is not known at this stage and a case of culpable homicide has been opened.
The name of the victim has not yet been released.
