A man has opened up a case of assault after a suspect, dressed in a security uniform tried to break into his home in Summerstrand, Gqeberha.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says it is alleged that the complainant heard a knock at his door in Caulfield Road, shortly after 7 pm on Thursday.
She says when he opened the door he was informed by a man dressed in a uniform of one of the security companies operating in Nelson Mandela Bay, that someone had thrown something on the roof of his house.
Colonel Naidu says while they were still chatting, another suspect appeared and they tried to push the door open, slapping the man in the process.
She says the his wife managed to press the panic alarm and ran into their bedroom.
The suspects ran off without stealing anything.
It was alleged on social media that the suspect was wearing a Fidelity ADT uniform.
Algoa FM News reached out to the company who responded swiftly.
Group CEO Wahl Bartmann said they were aware of Thursday's incident in which unidentified persons reportedly gained access to a home in Caulfield.
"Social media reports suggest that the persons were dressed in clothing that resembled those worn by our armed response officers. We are investigating this incident along with the SAPS,” he added.
