Eastern Cape police say a task team was established to investigate the murder of a student at Walter Sisulu University’s Mthatha campus this past weekend.
Police spokesperson, Captain Dineo Koena, said they have also activated their 72-hour action plan.
She said on Monday that no arrests were made yet in connection with the incident when the second year Public Management student was allegedly attacked and thrown from the third floor of a campus building.
WSU spokesperson, Yonela Tukwayo, said that campus security reported that the deceased was accused of stealing cell phones and laptops of other students.
“There are a number of upgrades taking place at Zamokulungisa and security is one of those being improved,” she said in a statement.
Tukwayo said, “as management, we strongly condemn such violent acts by students and we are committed to stamping out violent and unruly behavior.”
