Garden Route police have assembled a team to track down two men who escaped from the George Correctional Centre.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies says the trial awaiting prisoners, 32-year-old Calisto Chadereka, a Zimbabwean national, and 37-year-old Trevor Moliwa, escaped from the prison at around 04:10 on Wednesday morning.
Spies says the team consists of police, members from the Directorate of Priority Crime Investigations, and the Department of Correctional Services.
They were reported missing during a routine session at the prison.
Meanwhile, the George Magistrates Court issued warrants of arrest for the escapees this morning.
Police have urged the public to assist them with any information that could lead to the arrest of the prisoners.
Spies said members of the public are urged not to engage or confront the wanted escapees when spotted as they are deemed to be dangerous.
The public is urged to report their whereabouts to police instead.
