Two suspects appeared in court in George on Friday in connection with the murder of George taxi boss, Welele Mbudede.
The men, aged 23 and 39, were arrested on Thursday on charges of murder and attempted murder.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Chris Spies, said Mbudede was gunned down outside his home on 1 March when gunmen fatally shot him and wounded another person in the leg.
He said the case against the two was postponed to 30 March for a formal bail application.
Meanwhile, Western Cape MEC for Mobility, Ricardo Mackenzie, welcomed the arrests, saying that it showed what could be achieved through cooperation.
He said Mbudede was a leader in the minibus taxi industry, as well as a partner in the George Integrated Public Transport Network.
"The rollout of the GO GEORGE bus service in Thembalethu is a key priority, and we need to ensure the safety of all involved. Criminal elements cannot be allowed to hold back service delivery for residents," he said.
McKenzie said a successful trial run of the bus routes was conducted this week in preparation for the launch of the Thembalethu service.
"The Western Cape Government is committed to delivering safe, reliable, and affordable public transport. We have invested significantly in supporting the GO GEORGE bus service, which is a partnership between local, provincial, and national government," he added.
