Suspects behind bars after truck hijacked outside Gqeberha

Members of the Kariega K9 unit led the arrest of four people and the recovery of stolen goods after a truck was hijacked on the N2 near the Coega harbour this week.

Police spokesperson, Captain  Andre Beetge, said a delivery truck was hijacked on Wednesday and two hours later found abandoned and empty in Chase Drive in Young Park.

He said further investigation led SAPS members to a warehouse in Kendle Street, in Neave Township.

Beetge said all the consumable goods from the truck, valued at approximately R 215 0000, were recovered and returned to the lawful owners.

He said police also found a huge amount of expired consumable goods inside the warehouse which was also confiscated.

The goods were handed over the the environmental health department for disposal.

Beetge said the four males, aged between 18 and 35, were charged with illegal possession of stolen goods.

He said they remain in custody after appearing in court.
