Gqeberha police arrested five suspects in Summerstrand in the early hours of Wednesday after stolen medicine worth R700 000 was found in their possession.
Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says police noticed four suspicious vehicles at the braai areas in Marine Drive and when they went to investigate, one of the vehicles, a Quantum minibus, sped away.
She says police managed to block in a Mazda, a Hilux bakkie and a Toyota Corrolla before making the arrests.
Captain Janse van Rensburg says police suspect that the men were involved in the hijacking of a courier vehicle last Friday.
She says the driver was en route to East London when he was accosted by five armed men in Motherwell where he was forced to comply with their instructions.
The men drove the vehicle to Swartkops River where the driver was dropped off.
After a hijacking case was opened, police followed up on leads which eventually led them to the vehicles in Summerstrand.
Captain Janse van Rensburg says all the vehicles were impounded for further investigation.
Two of the three vehicles confiscated by SAPS in Marine Drive, Summerstrand.
During the search, police also found a signal jammer, a chrome licensed firearm and all kinds of medical supplies.
The suspects, aged between 32 and 47, are expected to appear in court soon where they will be charged with possession of suspected stolen goods.
More charges could be added as police investigate their possible link to the hijacking.
