Two suspects who allegedly hijacked a truck near Jeffreys Bay were arrested in Stanford Road in Gqeberha on Monday morning, mere hours after the incident had taken place.
The arrest was due to the swift reaction of the Gqeberha K9 Unit, members of the Kabega Park Police station, and a private security company.
Dairy products valued at R500 000 were recovered after the arrest.
According to police, the truck was travelling on the N2 from Coega towards St. Francis Bay at around 06:20.
Spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said a charcoal coloured Chevrolet Utility swerved in front of the truck just after the second turn-off to Jeffreys Bay.
"The driver was pointed with firearms and instructed to pull over.
"The driver and his passenger were forced into the bakkie and they were dropped off in New Brighton where they reported the incident to police."
Upon receiving information about the hijacking at around 09:30, members of the Gqeberha K9 unit immediately followed up.
They spotted the truck at the off ramp of Stanford Road with two suspects inside.
According to Janse van Rensburg, a signal jammer was found inside the truck.
The suspects, aged 27 and 39-years-old, are expected to appear in the Humansdorp Magistrates Court soon.
