Two suspects have been arrested following an armed robbery on a farm outside Burgersdorp in the Eastern Cape.
Police spokesperson, Captain Ursula Roelofse, said three men entered the house on Alfalfa farm on Monday morning and tied up the domestic worker and two gardeners.
She said when 81-year-old farmer Jannie Terburg and another worker returned from the field, the elderly man was attacked and tied up in the passage while the worker was locked up in a bathroom.
The men ransacked the house taking several items including a firearm and ammunition before fleeing in the farmer’s bakkie.
Roelofse said neighbouring farmers later spotted the vehicle and alerted the police and a chase ensued during which shots were fired. One suspect was arrested while the other suspect who sustained a gunshot wound was arrested later in Tembisa township.
The third suspect remains at large.
Police recovered a firearm and ammunition as well as other items which were found in the bakkie.
The suspects will appear in court this week.
