A 33-year-old man is scheduled to appear in the Riversdale magistrate's court on Wednesday after he was charged with the murder of an 88-year-old resident from Gouritzmond on the Garden Route.
The body of retired reverend John Barnard was found on the kitchen floor of his home by a neighbour on Sunday afternoon.
Captain Malcolm Pojie said he'd sustained severe head injuries.
Further information led the investigating team to premises in Gouritsmond where they took a person of interest into custody to be interrogated.
This person matched the description provided by witnesses who saw a strange man at the premises of the deceased, the day before.
