A police vehicle was written off in an accident when a 25 year old man was released from the George Police Station on Tuesday morning after which he stole the police van and drove off.
Police Spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie told Algoa FM News that the man was arrested for disorderly behavior. He was released when he went to the back of the police station where he stole one of the vehicles. The George Police informed police stations in Riversdal and Heidelberg.
A roadblock was set up on the N2 outside Heidelberg where the suspect refused to stop. He caused an accident involving two other police vehicles and a truck. The stolen police vehicle was written off.
Captain Pojie confirmed that the man was taken to the Riversdal Hospital for observation. He said that the circumstances surrounding the incident will be investigated.
