A suspected robber was shot in the neck in Port Elizabeth following a business robbery in the early hours of Monday morning.
Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says police were alerted to a robbery in progress, shortly before 4 am at a shopping mall in the Kabega Park cluster.
She says when members arrived at one of the entrances, they noticed a Nissan 1400 bakkie with no number plates.
The driver spotted the police and tried to ram into the police vehicle.
Janse van Rensburg says police swerved away and fired shots at the vehicle, forcing it to stop.
A 27-year-old suspect was shot in the neck.
His 32-year-old accomplice ran away but was apprehended by Max, the K9 dog, who found him hiding inside the toilets.
Both were taken to hospital under police guard.
Janse van Rensburg says the Nissan Bakkie was stolen in Kwadwesi in December.
Baywest Mall later confirmed on their Facebook page that the robbery took place on their premises.
