Dutywa Police are investigating a case of house robbery, murder and attempted murder after five intruders broke into a house occupied by students from the Dinizulu Senior Secondary School.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, says community members responded in numbers when they heard the scholars' screams for help.
The robbery took place on Thursday at about 7 pm in the Bomvana Location.
He says a 27-year-old man was fatally shot by police when they arrived at the scene.
A second was rushed to the Butterworth hospital after he was brutally assaulted by the community.
Manatha says the three other suspects escaped from the scene with cellphones.
