A 39-year-old man is under police guard in a Port Elizabeth hospital after he was shot by a female constable on Friday morning.
Police spokesperson, Constable Mncedi Mbombo, says the incident happened inside a liquor store in Motherwell when he allegedly broke a bottle and advanced towards the police member.
Mbombo says the Constable drew her firearm and ordered the man to put down the broken bottle neck.
However, when the man continued to advance the Constable shot him in the upper body.
Mbombo says police were called because it was suspected that the man was there to rob the liquor store.
