Eastern Cape police are searching for two awaiting trial prisoners who are on the run after escaping from lawful custody.
In the one incident police are appealing for help in tracking down 27-year-old Buzile Mhlungwani who fled from the Stutterheim Magistrate’s court on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa, said that he made his dash for freedom while being taken back to the police holding cells.
She said Mhlungwani was appearing in court for aggravated robbery and was remanded in custody until 5 August.
Mawisa said anyone who may have information on his whereabouts should contact Detective Sergeant Siviwe Jan of Stutterheim SAPS on 043 683 1177 or 082 388 3708.
Meanwhile, EC SAPS are still searching for a suspect who was part of a group of five who escaped from the Ntabunkulu Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Captain Raphael Motloung said five of the escapees have since been rearrested but one suspect remains on the run.
He said the six, aged between 21 and 24, are facing charges of stock theft, common assault and burglary.
Motloung said the suspect who is still at large is considered to be dangerous and members of the community are asked not to approach him but rather to alert the authorities as to his whereabouts.
