Suspect makes brief court appearance for PE councillor's murder

The case against 29 year-old Bogani Cagwe, who is accused of murdering ANC councillor Buyisile Mkavu in Kwanobuhle near Uitenhage earlier this month has been postponed in the Uitenhage magistrate's court.

Police warrant officer Basil Seekoei says Cagwe made a brief appearance on Monday and the case was postponed to the 21st of August on the request of the investigating officer who indicated that the arrest of a second suspect was imminent.

Cagwe also applied for legal aid.

Its alleged that on the evening of 2 August, Cagwe approached Mkavu's vehicle from the left passenger side and shot him through the open front window.

The 40-year old councillor in charge of human settlements in the metro was hit in the upper body, and he died at the scene.
