A 24-year-old suspect made a brief appearance in the Alexandria Magistrate's court today following last month's brutal attack on Alexandria farmer, Riaan Scheepers.
Captain Mali Govender says Siphamandla Petse was remanded in custody until next Tuesday the 12th of December for a formal bail application.
Sixty-two-year-old Scheepers was severely assaulted in his home on the morning of 25 November and was rushed to hospital with several skull fractures.
He's still in a serious condition and has been placed in an induced coma as doctors look to reduce swelling in the brain.
One of his farm workers was also injured in the attack.
Captain Govender says Alexandria Detectives made the breakthrough last Friday.
She said several items of clothing, as well as Scheepers' cell phone, were recovered during Petse's arrest.
Port Alfred police cluster commander, Brigadier Morgan Govender commended the community for their assistance and information supplied.”
The Alexandria Agricultural Association also praised the police for the breakthrough in the case.
