Management at the Hemingways Mall in East London have confirmed that a suspect tried to evade security personnel on Friday by jumping from the mezzanine level
Hemingways Mall General Manager Reinette van Tonder says that at around 1pm on Friday, a man running from security tried to make a getaway by jumping from the mezzanine parking level at the back of the mall.
He fell two floors to the ground level below.
He survived the fall and was taken by ambulance to Frere Hospital – Algoa FM News understands that his injuries included a broken ankle.
Van Tonder said the man was identified from a prior fraudulent transaction at the mall and security were alerted to his presence today.
The matter has been handed over to the police who will continue their investigation into the case against the suspect.
