A 35-year-old man is expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Tuesday in connection with the murder of a local street patroller from Bethelsdorp.
The 54-year-old Billy Kleinhans, who was a member of the local Community Policing Forum, was gunned down on Friday night whilst walking through an open field in Mistletoe Road.
His 63-year-old companion escaped unharmed after jumping over the wall of a house.
The speedy arrested has since been welcomed by the National Police Commissioner, General Khehla Sithole.
The Provincial Organised Crime Unit acted on a top off and arrested the suspect in less than 48 hours.
Sithole said he hopes the swift arrest will provide some relief for the family that "justice is being served".

Kleinhans wrote on his Facebook page that he was part of the policing forum as he hated crime.
