Suspect arrested in J'Bay for attempted murders in 2016

Eastern Cape police have arrested a suspect in Jeffreys Bay on two charges of attempted murder following a shooting in Bloemendal in Port Elizabeth nearly a year ago.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says the arrest in Silk Street in Moeras Jeffreys Bay was carried out by the Provincial Gang Investigation Unit, assisted by Humansdorp's K9 unit Members from its Operational Command Centre as well as members of Jeffreys Bay Crime Prevention Unit.

She says a 24-year-old man was arrested during the operation in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Naidu says officers also confiscated two firearms which were hidden in a disused washing machine as well as an assortment of drugs with a street value of more than 96 thousand rands.

She says the suspect was wanted for a shooting in June last year in which he and two others opened fire at two people in Bloemendal.

Naidu says he is expected to appear in court soon.
