PORT ELIZABETH, January 11 (ANA) - The Eastern Cape Gang Investigation Unit on Thursday arrested a 32-year-old man in Hankey on charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and the possession of drugs.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said during the early hours of the morning police acted on information about drugs and firearms.
Naidu said police searched a house in Rosedale and recovered a .38 revolver, rounds of ammunition, 1,841 Stillpain tablets, a large amount of cash, 59 Mandrax tablets, Tik and Dagga.
Naidu said the firearm was reported stolen in Humewood in Port Elizabeth in July last year.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
“Firearms and drugs are central in the commission of serious crimes such as murder, robbery and housebreaking. The confiscation of these drugs and the eradication of firearms is a step closer to ensuring safer communities," said Naidu.
