Port Elizabeth police arrested a suspect wanted for the rape of an NMU student and for stabbing of another female student in a computer lab on Monday night.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the 29-year-old man was arrested in Govan Mbeki Avenue this afternoon, apparently while trying to sell a computer that he stole during the attack.
Naidu said arrest was made by members of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit, supported by members of the police's flying squad.
The brazen attack took place on NMU's Second Avenue campus, sparking two days of protests by other students demanding improved security on campus.
Naidu says the suspect will appear in court on Friday.
