A suspect who was arrested on Friday for the possession of stolen goods following a robbery in Summerstrand last week turned out to be a wanted suspect in a double murder at a Port Elizabeth retirement home.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says 28-year-old Akhona Mnxeba was the last suspect they were looking for in connection with the murder of two people at the Stella Londt Retirement village in PE in October 2019.
Mnxeba was one of eight suspects arrested last Thursday morning just hours after a teenager was robbed in her house in Summerstrand.
On the 10th of October, 2019 staff at Stella Londt found the bodies of 91-year-old Agnes Elaine Burns and 87-year-old Rosemary Langton in their respective rooms.
Kruger rands, elite watches, rings and a wedding ring with precious stones and cellphones were taken from the scene.
One of the accused turned out to be a carer at the facility, 34-year-old Nombebisi Slangveld.
Naidu says it is alleged that Slangveld conspired with her co-accused who are all foreign nationals.
Initially, five suspects were arrested for the murder but two pleaded guilty on charges of money laundering and being in possession of the victims' stolen phones.
Mnxeba will be back in court along with his co-accused in the Stella Londt murder case on the 18th of March.
