Police at Dutywa in the Eastern Cape have arrested a suspect after the senseless murder of an elderly woman.
The 85 year old woman was attacked and killed at her homestead at Cacadu Village near Dutywa on Thursday night.
The victim was with a relative at the time when she was attacked by a balaclava wearing suspect who fled the scene on foot.
Police Captain Jackson Manatha says Dutywa detectives thoroughly combed the crime scene and linked the suspect during their investigation.
His whereabouts were traced with the assistance of the community and he was arrested at a nearby tavern.
Captain Manatha says the 34 year old suspect will appear in the Idutwya Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of murder.
Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt General Liziwe Ntshinga commended the members for the swift arrest of the suspect.
