Suspect arrested for fatal hit and run of Port Elizabeth child

A 26-year-old man has been arrested at his house in Windvogel in PE's northern areas in connection with the death of a 4-year-old boy.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the boy was killed in a hit and run accident in Bloemendal on Saturday afternoon.

She says the child and his mother were on their way back from a funeral and were getting into a taxi when a Blue Jumbo Golf, travelling at high speed collided with the child.The four-year-old Orlando Du Plessis from Bethelsdorp was dragged for a few meters before the vehicle sped off.

According to eye witnesses there were two men and a woman in the car.

Naidu says the man is expected to appear in the Gelvandale magistrate court on Monday on a charge of culpable homicide.
