Eastern Cape police have arrested a suspect for the brutal killing of six family members in Kwaaiman at Mqanduli this week.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Thembinkosi Kinana, said the suspect was arrested in Ginsberg near King Williams Town on Thursday night.
“According to the reports, the investigators received information which led them to a flat allegedly belonging to a relative in Ginsberg where they found and arrested the 32-year-old male suspect who was in hiding.”
“At the time of the arrest the suspect is believed to have been preparing to flee South Africa back to his home country,” he said.
Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Liziwe Ntshinga, said she was “truly excited at this major breakthrough.”
The deceased include a 42-year-old mother and her children aged between six months and ten-years-old.
An axe was found on the scene and appears to have been the murder weapon.
Kinana said once charged, the suspect will appear in the Mqanduli Magistrate Court on Monday on six counts of murder.
