Suspect arrested for allegedly killing former Junior Springbok rugby-player

Police in Mdantsane arrested a 32-year old man following the death of a local rugby player.

Police Spokesperson Captain Mluleki Mbi says the 27-year-old Mlungisi Bali was stabbed in the chest at a traditional ceremony on the 28th of December.

Bali was a former under 21 Blue Bull lock and also played for the Griffons in the 2013/14-season.

The Blue Bulls expressed their sadness on their Facebook page yesterday, after hearing the news of Bali's passing.

They said on their page "Bali featured strongly for the under 19 and under 21 teams at Loftus, and in 2010 was selected to represent the South African U20 team that played in the IRB Junior World Championship in Argentina.

Bali played alongside Elton Jantjies, Patrick Lambie and his friend CJ Stander, who also captained the team.

Captain Mbi says the suspect allegedly had an argument with Bali when the stabbing occurred. He was rushed to hospital but died on Tuesday.

The suspect will appear in court on Monday on a charge of murder.
