A 24-year-old man is behind bars for the brutal attack on Alexandria farmer, Riaan Scheepers.
Police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender, said that Alexandria Detectives made the arrest on Friday.
She said several items of clothing, as well as Scheepers' cell phone, were recovered.
Port Alfred police cluster commander, Brigadier Morgan Govender, said that “the community is commended for their assistance and information supplied.”
The Alexandria Agricultural Association has praised the police for the arrest.
Chairperson, Brent McNamara, said that “our thanks also go out to the community who have provided input to date and who we urge to continue to forward any further information to ensure that a successful conviction of the perpetrators is obtained.”
Sixty-two-year-old Scheepers was severely assaulted in his home last weekend while a farm worker was also injured in the attack.
