Police in Gqeberha are investigating a case of murder after a gunman killed his accomplice while chasing a victim in Ikamvelihle.
Captain Andre Beetge says a 34-year-old man was walking home just after 8 pm on Sunday when two armed men approached him.
He says the man feared that he would be robbed and started running away.
Beetge says the suspects pistol-whipped him in the face before he ran into a nearby shack to seek cover.
One of the suspects followed him into the shack when his accomplice started firing several shots outside.
Captain Beetge says the suspect shot his 39-year-old accomplice in the eye and that he died on the scene.
The suspect grabbed his fallen accomplice's firearm and fled the scene.
