The man accused of stabbing an East London cashier to death in a supermarket in Vincent at the weekend made his first appearance in the local Magistrate's court on Thursday morning.
Thirty-one-year-old Sivenathi Mkaba was remanded in custody and will be back in court on the 7th of February for a formal bail application.
He was arrested on Sunday morning, moments after he allegedly chased down 36-year-old Nwabisa Luningo and stabbed her multiple times - seemingly without provocation.
Mkaba, who also does not appear to even know the deceased, was clad in a hospital gown during his brief court appearance following his release from Frere Hospital yesterday.
He stood in the dock and showed the presiding Magistrate, Rochel Sam, injuries he sustained on his partly shaven head, back and hands after security guards allegedly beat him with a knobkerrie while apprehending him.
