The Knysna Municipality said that the fires “that have held Greater Knysna hostage for the past six days are all contained”.
In a statement early Sunday evening, the Municipality said that “no areas needed to be evacuated today”.
The Municipality said that only Buffels Kop residents, who were evacuated on Saturday, are currently being housed in the Hornlee Civic Centre.
“Thankfully all other displaced residents have now found refuge with their friends and family, which must be offering them comfort following the trauma of fleeing from the fires,” Knysna Municipality said.
“Although many structures have been destroyed, Knysna remains open for business with more tourist establishments escaping the horror than those destroyed,” the Municipality said.
